Description:

ABC’s DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES meets HBO’s DEXTER.

No one was supposed to know. I’ve always been so careful. My Darlings, how did we get here?

Evil lurks behind the perfectly manicured lawns, ornate iron gates, and long winding driveways of affluent DC–but not for long.

Stay-at-home mom Eloise Williams is PTO president and a respected local philanthropist who sits on the boards of many distinguished charities. In addition to being a doting wife and mother, she is also a serial killer.

But Eloise isn’t the only lady in society playing a part. As the hidden lives of Eloise’s inner circle are exposed, the body count rises. When stalkers become prey, Eloise desperately clings to control.

Money and power can only buy influence and safety for so long. Eventually, the curtains lift, exposing the chilling reality hiding in plain sight.

Adele’s Review:

The publisher description of My Darlings as ‘ABC’s Desperate Housewives’ meets HBO’s ‘Dexter’ gave me high hopes for the book. I’ve seen every episode of both series and consider myself a fan. The book’s exceptional cover art lured me too. I could hardly wait to start reading.

The story starts out strong, and the first person POV is reader-friendly and well-written. The author offers readers a look inside the mind of a female psychopath and serial killer while we follow her routine as a member of the one percent with a taste for murder. We also follow each character in Eloise’s inner circle, none of whom like each other. And then, surprisingly, the direction of the book shifts. The plotlines begin to meander. The story is still interesting enough to continue reading, but the promise of ‘Dexter’ fades.

Writing from the perspective of a psychopath is a tough assignment, but Marie Still does a convincing job with Eloise. Despite the wandering plot, the author’s writing skill and ability to create interesting characters earns her book a four-star rating.

  1. Hi Beth! I rated the book four stars (four sand dollars). The author just got a movie deal for the story. I look forward to seeing the screen written version of the book.
