Wow. Holy cow. I Am The Monster Under The Bed scared the beejezzus out of me while I read the book at bedtime, tucked under my covers. I continued reading, of course, though my heart pounded. Isn’t that why we love horror stories? We can indulge our fright when we know we’re perfectly safe. Willa, the main character of this debut novel, dissolved her fear by making friends with the entity under her bed. Brilliant.

Emily Zinnikas has written a truly impressive first release. The story is somehow familiar, yet highly original. It’s well-written and entertaining, with a cast of quirky supporting characters. This reviewer predicts a major movie or streaming service deal for the author in the not-too-distant future. Is the book perfect? There are a few plotlines I believe need clarity, while others need less, but few books are perfectly executed. Even my favorite A-List authors write terrific four-star books now and then. The Monster debut deserves high marks for originality. This reviewer will be on the lookout for Emily’s next thriller.
